Hi everyone,

My uncle gave me a PC to fix,it seems to power up,but it doesn't do anything else.
It won't start the loading from HDD and i get no signal on the screen,the power led is on and PSU/CPU fan are running,the HDD led blink for half second right when i push the power button (seems more a power check to me) then the HDD led turn off.
What i tried to do so far:
-Removed RAM,reinstalled it/switched slot;
-Removed Mobo battery/plugged in a new one;
-Used another compatible PSU;
-Tried to remove every PCI card [but it has a build-in VGA];
-Tried to remove RAM/Battery/HDD etc in order to receive any audio signal [beep] from the mobo but nothing.
-Tried to touch the CPU heatsink (with the fan off,but the heatsink was still there) for any sign of heating but after 30 secs it was still metal-cold (i also mesured the heating with a termometer,it starts from 20°C and gain 1°C every 45 seconds,i switched it off at 23°C);

What else can i try to do?
I'm thinking of a mobo fault but i don't know how to better verify this assumption.

NOTE: i don't have a temporary compatible mobo to test the CPU every component.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, Detailing the components would help. Can you attach a case speaker to the motherboard?

Sorry,the PC is an Acer Extensa E264.
It seems i can't find any useful information about the motherboard.
Anyway the main components should be:
-Mobo: MB.SAK09.010
-Proc: Intel E7400
-GPU: Dedicated
-RAM: 2GB DDR2 800Mhz

Unfortunately i don't have a case speaker to use.

Thanks in advance.

This happened to me one time. It was a corrupt file. I didn't fix it tho because it was the family computer. It went to the shop.

You need to find out what is wrong checking the POST code fault. Since you can't see a signal on the screen hook up a speaker, listen, and check the beeps. It sounds like you don't know what that is as you haven't mentioned it. I bought a bag of miniature speakers (the are the size of a pencil eraser) online cause I didn't have one on a MB for like $10. I am sure you can buy one for a couple of dollars at a computer store. It will save you time - believe me.

Thanks for the reply.
So,i went to the shop this morning to buy a case speaker,when i brought it at home and was about to connect it,i noticed that on the motherboard there seemed to be no pins for it.
After a check i discovered that the motherboard already had a speaker installed although it's soldered directly on the mobo.

So..i guess that hearing no sound even if everything but the processor is disconnected means that the mobo is gone?

@XXDracoX I don't think it's a File System related matter because i don't even get to bios screen.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I just tested the RAM by installing them on my PC [has same kind or RAM] and they work fine.
(now i have 6GB or RAM yeyyy!)

Yes, if no beeps when starting the board with only CPU and CPU fan installed then it might be a board or a CPU issue. I'd say that it's the motherboard. What you can try is replacing the CMOS battery with a new one (if an old system).

Already replaced it with a new one (removed the old battery,waited 5 minutes,installed the new one).I also used the onboard reset jumper.

One last thing,if the problem was the processor,i should have heard the beep from the mobo right?

Thanks.

No, With no valid CPU, no beeps also. Usually the motherboards get faulty, but we can't rule out a CPU issue without installing a good one and testing.
You're welcome.

This is good to know.
Since both my PC and this one has a LGA775 socket,i may try switching processors,just to be sure.

Thanks a lot everyone!

I had a mother board last weak with bad pins for the CPU and the bios had a LED readout and it gave me fault codes. Going on that basis wouldn't it be beeping too?

I also had this problem with a bad motherboard. I think with the corrupt file, it gave us the name of the motherboard and the option to go to bios and then it went blank.
