Even when i connect it back to my old motherboard, it works fine. new one and it doesnt even spin. Ive tried at least 3 different sata leads and all the ports. The optical drive is recognised fine.

I've ordered a new hard drive so it will be clean as maybe it's due to my old drive being full of files and a version of windows.

The Pc just doesnt even recognise the drive at all. i really hope it's not a board issue...

any thoughts?

not sure what the problem was exactly but i got myself a new drive and it's working fine.

there may be compatibility issues between samsung HD103SJ hard drives and gigabyte H87-HD3 motherboards
