Hi I am trying to install linux mint alongside windows 7

I used unetbootin to put the iso file onto a flash disk and now when I boot into my flash drive everything works fine, I am currently using it right now to write this post to you.

But when I click on Install linux mint, it doesn't detect that I have windows 7!

Here are the options:

Erase disk and install Linux Mint
warning: this will delete any files on the disk

Something Else

there is nothing about windows 7!!! help!!!

Solution
That's only three primary partitions so it should have worked. Let's try something else. Shrink your big disk as much as you want mint to have and leave it empty. Reboot to your live mint and open gparted. In the empty space create an extended volume. In that create an ext 4 partition with 2gbs free after. In the 2gb space leave for now . If it accepts those changes then start your installer again and when it gets to the partition point select something else. In the big new partition make the mount point / and make the little one a swap. Continue on as normal.

This usually means that windows was installed using 4 primary partitions which is the maximum allowed. You should go to your manufacturers site and find how to free up one of the partitions. Once that is done the installer will create an extended partition to install linux into.

If windows isn't there after the install DON'T PANIC. Install and run boot-repair and accept default repairs. If it still doesn't show up still don't panic, simply restore the mbr with that recovery disk. 1AM here, I'll be back to see how you like mint in about 8 hours.
