More Windows 8.1 and Nvidia Woes

Installed Windows 8.1. Getting a black screen with a white blinking _ and no hard drive activity.

Going into BIOS and changing to my internal graphics card (onboard Intel) boots into 8.1 fine, using my Nvidia 560Ti results in the black screen. I've updated my Nvidia drivers to the latest version and have been checking for Windows updates every day. Already have the latest BIOS installed. Everything worked fine in Windows 8, but since Microsoft is jumping ship on supporting that in two years, I think keeping up to date is going to be the best idea.

I have been googling things for a couple weeks now and am just running into the same articles about Nvidia already saying they have the best compatibility with Windows 8.1, despite many users having similar problems to mine, and Microsoft is as silent as ever. Meanwhile my desktop isn't usable for most of the tasks I need it for.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

Sidenote: I also have a laptop that installed 8.1 just fine, but after installing a graphics driver update a week after Windows 8.1 came out caused it to go into a blackscreen and I had to restore back to Windows 8 and lose all my files on that restore. Sucks, but weird that I got boned for the same problem on two different devices, with different vid card makes.

I downloaded the update from Windows 8 via the Windows store, and in that instance, they don't give a key out with that (your only option for installing 8.1 is to always install 8 first, in this case).

With the help of this site, I was able to...
I would try getting into the recovery environment on the Windows 8.1 install disk and let the automated repair tools figure out the issue with the boot failure. In my experience, it actually works fairly well... has saved me quite a bit of time and effort on a few occasions.

If you don't have an install disk, but do have the product key, you can download a copy of the disk from the page at Microsoft's site below:

With the help of this site, I was able to download the 8.1 ISO.

I tried the Boot Repair, and that came up with nothing. I am reluctant to do a refresh, with the problem that I mentioned my laptop ran into (it just reinstalled Windows 8, not 8.1 and deleted all my files). I have all my files backed up, I just don't want to spend several hours restoring and re-installing 400GBs. But I will if it means for sure that I'll have a fully operational computer again.

An interesting thing happened though, with the 8.1 CD in the drive, the white _ blinks then says "Press Any Key To Boot From CD....." and THEN it advances to the desktop! I pulled the CD out and the boot hangs up on that blinking _ . I have full use of my video card as long as that disk is in. Not really a solution, but getting there.
