Change SATA port, "disk read error"

Ok.....so, I bought an SSD. Finally. A week or so ago I installed it into a Sata3 port on my Z77 Fatality mobo but just realized today after researching why my SSD wasn't even coming close to the advertised read/write speeds that I had plugged the SSD into an ASRock sata3 port vs an Intel sata3 port. I thought that I should be able to turn off my system, go into bios to make sure boot order n wutnot was ok, power it back on, and make any changes I needed to there after... Not the case. All I got was "disk read error / ctrl-alt-delete to reboot" I tried going back into bios to make sure I didn't leave anything off and everything seemed ok. Bios recognized the SSD so I don't understand. Have we not come far enough along in technology that I can't plug-n-play and everything work? lol. What am I doing wrong? I plugged the SSD back into the original working sata3 port and was able to boot back up. Can I make some changes before I turn off the computer to switch ports?

btw.. if it matters, my SSD is a Samsung 840pro 256Gb
mobo Z77 fatality
i7-3770K
Windows 7 64bit
x2 HD6970's in xfire

Thanks for any insight anyone may be able to offer and taking the time to read up on my issues.

You have multiple storage controllers on that board. it sounds like you tried to use the AsMedia sata3 ports for which your current win7 installation does not have the driver setup to boot with.Or maybe you had it in the Asmedia and tried to boot with the intel sata3 (which is the one you want by the way)

Solved! I feel a little silly but here's the answer... I could have sworn that during all of my many, many trials and errors, I had tried ALL of the ports but after trying every other method including registry edits, driver delete/re-downloads, every bios setting possible, etc. It all came down to one port that I guess I didn't try but now works. I have 2 Intel Sata3's and 4 ASmedia Sata3's of which I "thought" I had tried them all. After switching one of my WD 1TB hd's I had plugged into an Intel sata3 and the SSD I've been attempting to boot, it finally booted up using AHCI. It would only boot up using IDE before. So, it all boiled down to one Intel sata3 that worked and one that didn't for whatever reason. I dunno... I'm not a storage guru. Anyway, thanks for the above response.
