Doing a Partition and Format (together called Initializing by some) will do what you ask. HOWEVER, that means that ALL old data on that unit will be lost. You did not say whether it contains data you want to retrieve.
If you don;t need the old stuff, Partition and Format. If you do want to recover it, do NOT do that. Look on the 'net for data recovery from a RAW disk.
