Hello All,

I would like some help with the following issue:

I have a Gigabyte MA770T-UD3P motherboard with an Athlon II X2 250 CPU and 2x 2GB DDR3-1333 memory modules (one being Kingmax, the other Adata).

I was planning on upgrading my CPU to a Phenom II X4 965 BBE.

The current BIOS was F2 and since the Phenom with C3 stepping requires BIOS F4 I had to update it. I decided to update it to the newest version once I was at it, so I installed BIOS F12. The update was successful, Windows 7 started up without any problem so I installed the new CPU.

With the new CPU the my PC started acting out. Random freezes and restarts. Usually within 5 minutes of windows running, when trying to start some applications, sometimes even during the Windows loading screen. (In one case PC was on all night running Aida stress test, but when I stopped the test it restarted and once again after that.)

Seems to me like a memory issue. Decided to try out every combinations of the RAMs/slots. Still not finished (around 3 more tries left) but I am yet to find one with which the system runs properly.
Also, I still want to test the modules individually.
(My setup, including the modules have been running w/o any issues for around 3 years now.)

So my questions would be the following:
I am right, and the symptoms are in fact imply memory issue?
Is it possible that the new BIOS is not compatible with my RAM?
Or can it be the new CPU that handles RAMs differently? (It says in the BIOS that the Phenom CPU can handle ganged and unganged mode, I don't remeber that being there with old BIOS/CPU.)

Any suggestions are welcome.
If I left out any important detail please let me know so I can elaborate.

Thank you in advance for your time and assistance.

Best regards,

PSU - Enermax Liberty ELT400AWT
GPU - Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB
No OC.

Meanwhile I was able to figure out that the Kingmax RAM module caused the issue.
Still don't know why but with only the other module installed it runs nicely.

Also as a coincidence (was very surprised to read it), on another forum a guy posted a very similar if not the same issue. He has the same motherboard with a Phenom II X2 545 CPU and with a Kingmax DDR3 1600 module, experiencing the same issue as me. Random freezes. With a different module it works okay for him too.
Not sure which version of the BIOS he has but already asked to see if it is the same as mine or not.
