Moving files from external hard drive to NAS

What is the fastest way to transfer all the data from my external hard drive to my new NAS? Is it possible to do this without using a computer or does the hard drive need to be connected to a computer?

Some nas's allow you to attach external usb drive. from there you can just copy and paste the files where you want them. but since the limiting factor is the speed of the usb drive, you wouldn't get any better performance than if it were attached to your pc and you did the copy and paste.
