Upgrade or Not? Another BF4 Graphics Question.

Hey all,

So here is my dilemma. Been playing BF4 last week and it went pretty well except for intermittent crashing both server and computer. However, I get the feeling maybe part of the cause of the crashes is my current set up.

Ultimately I am pretty competitive and don't really need all the Ultra settings. I have everything set to Low except Mesh Quality and use SSAO.

My question is: I was looking to get a new monitor (ASUS VG248QE Black 24" 144Hz) and continue to play at 1920x1080 1080p if it makes a difference on low settings. Ultimately I would like a smooth game play with best performance for that monitor and also a dual monitor set up

Currently getting spikes of FPS with current settings in the 30-50 range. What should I upgrade/replace if any?

Thanks for your time!

Current setup: (Just updated Ram and SSD last week)

Asus M4A87TD mobo
AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition
Asus GTX 460 SE 1GB
Kingston HyperX 8GB
Samsung 840 Pro 120gb SSD
Thermaltake TR2 Series 600W+80plus Bronze certified
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

That should do very well on medium-high settings. If you turn it down to low, you will come closer to the target 120Fps that your monitor supports. Also, an upgrade to windows 8 will serve you very well, as it can give a 5-10FPS increase in...

Yeah and that's what I was figuring. Any recommendations of where to start? Are the CPU, mobo and GPU the only things I would really need to upgrade. I already grabbed new ram and SSD so I should be getting there with a decent rebuild haha.

I have the Antec DF-10 Mid tower case if that helps. Thanks!

I guess I should edit this and say that my desktop computer is only used for gaming. It has fresh O/S with BF4 and League of Legends on the SSD. Only other thing that I ever find on my computer is Word and Excel, although limited use.

In regards to budget, hoping to keep it rather low, as I am cooped up with a broken leg for a couple more months (hopefully better news from the doctor today). Doesn't matter much if Intel or AMD in regard to graphics or cpu. Never had intel before maybe time for a change. Any additional info will be added at request. Thanks again.

Was hoping not to spend more than $500 but if a little more needs to be squeezed for what I want then any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Also, an upgrade to windows 8 will serve you very well, as it can give a 5-10FPS increase in BF4 due to DX11.1. When mantle is released, you will see even better performance. As for crashing, that is all BF4, not your rig. There is a patch in progress, however.

Just a follow up. Parts came last week and I built this on Monday. I am very satisfied and am running flawlessly on Windows 8.1 Pro with 120 fps ishhh haha on a mix of high and low settings. Thanks for you help and know I didn't let it go to waste. Very happy.
