I think my powersupply is 750w

I was thinking of buying a 7870 Powercolor - http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=79571&vpn=AX7870%202GBD5%2D2DHP&manufacture=PowerColor&promoid=1089

and although not sure on the CPU I was thinking of FX-6300 http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=76934&vpn=FD6300WMHKBOX&manufacture=AMD&promoid=1089.

I was also hoping to keepy my current motherboard but it seems its not very compatible with 7870 I think 4.9/10 rating.

My questions are
1. Is this a worthy upgrade for the $? Will this PC last me 3 years with good performance.

2. What CPU should I get and why?
3. How much of a bottle neck will my motherboard be? If it is what motherboard should I get?
4. Will I have power issues?
5. Anything else I didn't think of?
Thank You.

Your motherboard is old and is not compatible with AMD processors, Intel only. New processor for your motherboard is almost impossible to buy, maybe used one. 7870 will fit on your motherboard, but paired with that processor you have right now, will not give you full performance. My suggestion is to buy new pc.If you are interested in new pc, tell us your budget and maybe we will help you picking the parts

Damn.. that's bad news. As little as possible. But judging from what you are saying I can only reuse monitor, power supply and maybe RAM. How about $400? (Canadian) That being said if I have to spend $100 extra and make my PC last 3 years id rather do that then save 100 and have to buy all new stuff in a year.

However with my current PC I bought motherboard and GPU thinking I can crossfire them in the future. But even now if I crossfire 6600 from my understanding they don't even come close to a single 650ti boost.

From that list I took GPU,Motherboard and CPU because I have everything else. - Case,HDD,Supply and memory (which is cheap anyway).
So having said that can I not upgrade my GPU and Processor to be viable for future especially if motherboard allows crossfire? Is 7870 or any other CPU worth the extra money spent? Also perhaps I can spend 20-30 more dollars on a CPU that can be better. Any ideas?

7870 for - 183$ after rebate

CPU + motherboard - 190$ as you suggested
total 373$

Yes. What does the motherboard really do beside provide additional slots for all the hardware? Is it all just a compatibility thing? Do I need a 150$ MB or 60$ one will suffice.

I was also thinking about the CPU and from this article http://www.techbuyersguru.com/budgetgamer.php I am kind of leaning towards Intel Core i5-4570 however it cant be clocked and I can get i5-4670K for 20$ more which will give me a boost to be able to run games couple years from now.

BTW I ordered this today.

If you are not overclocking and do not SLI/Crossfire, you are ok with the cheaper motherboards. If you are planing to overclock you will also need better cooling, better power supply and that equals to more money.Stay with the normal parts, and believe me i5 4570 will be just fine for the next five years, maybe you will just have to change your graphic card in the future

Sounds good. I just checked my power supply and it is in fact 750w so that should run i5-4570 + 7870myst with no issues I take it and if I understand correctly I will not need any extra cooling?

Thanks!

After some more research I now have my eye back on fx-6300 and asus m5a97 le r2 atx am3.
1. Cost around 200 for both as opposed to i5 processor alone
2. Can overcloack cpu, mobo has 32 gif slots and x crossfire.

Its my understanding that games rely more heavily on gpu then cpu and i5 seems like overkill for my needs.

What do you think?

So i was looking at asus m5a97 and asrock 970 ithink. Mainly for both having sli/xcrossfire. Then i read that unless u have 8x or 16x times 2 the whole crossfire thing is useless. Now i have no idea which mo o to pick but i do want to have the option of doing proper crossfire. Any suggestions?

If you are planing to crossfire, amd cards don't work so good in pair, better go with nvidia cards. Btw for sli/crossfire you will need more power. I would strongly suggest you to go with more powerful single GPU, than two medium GPU's. Two cards need more power and produce more heat, therefor you will need high air flow case.

Any other suggestions for asus? Feels like i will be paying 100 for sli/xcrssfire which i wont use anyway. Perhaps there is a better single card alternative from asus?
