I want to upgrade from my per built PC. I had already bought a Radeon 7790. I'm still using the N-Alvorix-RS880-uATX (Alvorix) Motherboard amd athlon x2 3.1ghz that came with the computer.

My budget is about 180$~200$
Should I keep motherboard and buy new CPU or buy new motherboard and CPU.

And can I get some item suggestions for either options

Solution
Download the MSI Afterburner bro, then check your CPU usage when you are gaming. I bet that would be in the 100% area. Then check the GPU usage also, it might be at 70% only. That means your CPU is struggling then your GPU is just relaxing, it's a bottleneck..

I suggest you try out your 7790 first and see how you do.

If your motherboard supports a decent quad, then that would be a valid upgrade.

If you think you need to change your motherboard, I would look at Intel for cpu. A decent i3 and motherboard will fit your budget.

The 7790 works decently. On league i get Low- 40 avg-60 max- 80 on med-low settings. For battlefield 3 gets roughly 40 on high. My friend has same GPU as me but different CPU don't know which but he can run his games high or max and get about 55-60 fps

It would be worth finding out exactly what he runs.

He hasn't gotten back to me yet, but it seems the fx 6300 is spoken of a lot for budget builds
