Hi Guys

When i go to restart me pc as it starts to slow down in windows, i get upon start up 'IOH overheat' message and then the computer powers down. This i understood to be CPU overheating.

I have had a supermicro board a while. I am running a two 6 core intel xeon 5600 setup. I moved over to a new case

(Cooler Master HAF XM USB 3.0 E ATX Case)

with more room to allow for better air circulation as i was rendering and my other fans were smaller and were reving up making so much noise. so I purchased 2 of

Noctua - Heatsink + Fan CPU Cooling Kit - Intel LGA1366 Xeon 5500/5600 - NH-U12DX-1366

for better cooling, did some render tests and it seemed to have solved the issuse. After a day i get a message IOH overheat in the bios when i restart due to laggy windows, so to add extra reves for cooling shall we say i changed it to performance from default in the bios.

Still today i get the mouse starting to slowly move, after 5 mins leaving it it will start work at normal speed again.

I have downlaoded and am using superdocter 3. All summary readouts of fans voltage and themal appear fine. However i dont know if this is worth mentioning but in the item list, system temp reads high limit 75/167 and the status now as i type this is 58/136, i jump back over to summary and the graph read of this looks close to the threshold bar.

This board which also includes a quadro fx4800 has worked fine since 2010, no problems, i did get new chips upgraded from 4 core per cpu to 6 and flash upgraded the serverboard and all is fine, so not sure if that historically has any barring. All components were plugged back in the same place, drives mapping etc to.

Its weird my pc just seems to slow down. Im running 16 gig ram in there, use 3d studio max after effects etc.

I applied the paste correctly when putting the new coolers on and it was textbook so i am confused.

Any idea would greatly helped as i invested in new case and fans to prevent an overheating problem but have now run into a problem i cant solve.

Cheers guys hope to hear back soon.

Alex

Solution
58C is a pretty high idle temperature for that Noctua cooler. It doesn't leave very much overhead for full load CPU work(rendering). If your cooler is installed properly, you may have an issue with air-flow or thermal stacking. Are your GPUs porting air directly into your case or out the back?

Turns out it was an air flow, fitted two more 140 mm fans to the side of the case and the temp has dropped a lot. Thanks for your advice

I know it is an old thread but did you resolve the issue?
