More about convert drive gpt
  1. no it will not damage your drive but you will not be able to boot from it unless your motherbd is efi or uefi and you install win8 in efi/uefi mode.

edit - this also means that restoring your "non-uefi mode" win8 backup to the GPT drive will render it unbootable.

but will the conversion process to GPT be completed? even with the data loss factor?
  3. yes. You just can't do it from windows since its your boot drive; windows wont allow you. You'll need to boot from a bootdisk to perform the conversion.
