Hello

I will build a gaming pc in the next month. I already choose most of the components except the power supply. I would like a silent pc that doesnt compromise performance. I will be running the Sapphire R9 280x Toxic. In the Sapphire website it said that it needed 750W of power to run it, so I would also like to know if I can run it with 700W or 600W. My budget only for the power supply is under 80 US dollars, the budget for the whole build is 950-1000 US dollars. I would like my PSU to be very silent and I heard (im not sure) that higher wattage PSU are louder than a lower wattage PSU but also PSU running at the limit of its power will be loud too.

My system:
Intel Core i5 4670K
Sapphire Radeon R9 280x Toxic eddition
MSI Z87M-G63
Enermax ETS-T40-TA
NZXT Phantom 410
WD Blue 1tb
Kingston Hyper X Blu 4gb
Scythe Silent Typhoon Fan

Thanks a lot :D

You really aren't going to find a good 750W PSU for $80, not even in the US. However, for a single GPU you shouldn't need that much, a 550W supply is generally plenty for any single GPU, 750W will handle normal crossfire, I have no idea why the sapphire numbers are inflated that much, but all the reviews I can find of the Toxic 280x show it pulling less power than a 780

That is showing total power at the wall being less than 400W so a good 550W PSU will be fine, the XFX 550W should be within your price window and is a well reviewed little unit

Hybrid Fan Control
Conserves Power & Quieter

Hybrid mode, when activated, allows the PSU to operate silently until it reaches 30% load or 25°C. Then it switches to Quiet Mode (only 16dBA) until reaching 50% load which switches to Cooling Mode to cool the PSU appropriately.

The XFX Pro is a really nice PSU but it is well over my budget (110 dollars on Amazon) and since I live in Costa Rica I have to bring it by air and my postal service provider only brings items from Amazon.

Honestly I have never had a PSU that made any notable sound, unless you are sitting in a 40C room and have everything else cooled by an external system the PSU is going to be far from the loudest thing in the system, your CPU cooler or GPU cooler will most certainly be louder.

That looks really nice. How does it compare to the Thermaltake Smar,t Hale82N, ModXStream Pro, Integra r2 and the Raidmax Hybrid, which one is the most silent and performs well?

Wow I never imagined that you could run such a card with low wattage. Is the XFX the best you could get at that price range?

They usually over inflate the recommended power supply numbers to account for the overrated units like cheaper raidmax units or coolermaster eXtreme Power units which are only good up to about 60% of what they claim. Always check reviews for the cards, also understand that the numbers in the reviews are always power at the wall and are thus at least 10% higher than the power draw from the PSU.

The XFX is actually a really good unit, and $60 is a good price for a good 550W unit, if you shop around you may be able to find better in your price range(especially considering your shipping), but at the current price it isn't a bad deal.
