Question: Is the GTX780 graphics card compatible with my HP XW8600 with a 480024-001 motherboard?

Currently running a EVGA GTX660 SC (w/no issues) and would like to upgrade to a EVGA GTX 780 and have read about compatiblity issues with this card.

HP XW8600 Workstation
Dual 3.33ghz (quad core) processors
16GB memory
Windows 7 Pro
1200 watt PSU

Thanks ahead of time.

Hi
I work like Product Cosultant and i`m HP ASE and APS..
So my advise is to take you time before making fast deals.

You have to consider 2 options :
1. The mainboard is having 2 PCI Express x16 Gen2 Graphics Bus-you can still use Gen 3 but you cant benefit Gen 3
- the only posible way to have problem is that the GTX 780 is not down-side compatible - you have to...

- the only posible way to have problem is that the GTX 780 is not down-side compatible - you have to investigate this

2. You have to check you internal PSU cableing for needed PCI-E power conectors - on GTX780 :
Two available 8-pin PCI-E power connectors or
four available 6 pin PCI-E power connectors
Total Power Draw : 250 Watts

If you order you WS from HP with the corresponding HIGH END QUADRO you gonna have it with all equiped + PCI-E power conectors for the GPU installed - some PCA with ATX bracket kits are shiped with the GPU if you order GPU for upgrade
SO i asume you will not have those PCI-E power connectors befor you have installed you current GTX 660.
SO you`r know what to do :)
or you have allready exchaged you HP PSU with OEM 1200 W :)

Some details :
- you system is with of 800 or 1050 watt, 80 PLUS power supplie that`s how is HP ship it out of the factury ......
- you can support GPU card from 2x 75W Quadro`s up to 2 x NVIDIA Quadro FX 5800 4GB Graphics that is 2 x 225 Watts so having room for 450W and using only 250W is fine i think
- look you PSU again - by the EVEGA recomendention :
Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 42 Amps

I hope i`v helped !
