gtx 780 not detected after bios update

My gtx 780 isnt being detected anymore by my system after a bios update, and running a bios cpu overclocking with the asus AI suite II. I've attempted reinstalling the drivers, and already downgraded the bios to see if thats the issue, but so far no luck.

Specs:
cpu: i7-3770k
mobo: asus p8z77-v Pro
psu: corsair mx 750
gpu: evga gtx 780

I ran into the same problem with my system after updating my BIOS. Turns out the update caused the primary PCI slot to fail. Have you tried any other PCI slot's if available? Do you have an internal speaker for your system, if so are there any beep codes? Do you have another video card you can test with?

I tried the secondary PCI slot, and no success so far after that, and sadly i do not have an internal speaker....

You really only have two options at this point. First take the card to a friends house that has a compatible computer and test it there. Second, I would call ASUS and see if the board is under warranty and possibly begin the RMA procedure.

If the BIOS is not detecting the card no software will either.

alright, cause my display works through the card, it just won't detect it, and wont go beyond a resolution of 1024x768 and is using the generic driver for the display.

That is a totally different problem. This indicates the port is working and the problem may well be with the card. Have you tried downloading the latest drivers from geforce.com and doing a clean install?

I've tried all of that and none of it helps, and evga x precision says no supported hardware detected, and geforce experience doesnt detect the card either. It also says that the monitor is going through the microsoft basic display adapter.

With no other hardware available to you for testing there is little that can be done. One step you can try is booting into Safe Mode and uninstalling all Nvidia drivers. Here is a good guide:

A more drastic step would be to reinstall windows, after backing up all data of course.

Do the fans on the 780 spin at normal speed or at all? Are there any lights on the card, if so do they function?

All lights and fans work as normal, card just isnt detected. I'm currently considering reinstalling windows, but i'd like to avoid that for now.

Try the walkthru I posted above to ensure all drivers have been removed and reinstalled properly. It's worth a shot before a complete system dump and reinstall.

Tried the entire driver removal process, and still no luck, occasionally when removing the driver it would for a moment work at 1920x1080, but then it would go back to the 1024x768 without allowing me to change anything... is it possible my gpu got burned out somehow?

reset cmos

With it working occasionally at 1920x1080 I think the problem is more likely software based. Try the CMOS reset potpolima recommended, it can't hurt. Short of that, since you have tried reverting BIOS and reinstalling drivers, you could try a System Restore in Windows or a reinstall.

Good news is that it definitely sounds like a software problem and not hardware. Try the system restore, running CCleaner, or a windows install is all I have left.

I have only ever used the free version. To be honest other than support for and from the developer, I'm not sure what advantages the paid version offers. There is an addon you can download called CCEnhancer that adds support for more programs:

Now after i did a full backup in preparation for for a system restore/ clean install my computer is running at 1080 again, but still doesnt detect the gpu.... And after 5 mins at 1080 i tried a clean install of gpu drivers and it went back to 1024x768........

For me, I'm quite positive I have a broken GTX 780 HOF.

My GTX 780 is not being detected in my Device Manager either. My old HD 7850 is recognized. But not the GTX 780 in the PCIe slot above it. I have tried a 600w Coolermaster PSU. It has two 12v rails that max at 18A. I dont believe that PSU has enough voltage my 780. Anyway, I got the same result as my 1000w Lightning. The 780s fans would spin and the lights would flash but nothing would display.

Specs:
Fx 8320
GTX 780 HOF
Rosewill 1000w Lightning
Gigabyte 990FXA UD3 Mobo

Should I buy a new PSU or attempt to RMA my GTX 780? I have had it for a little over 6 months with no warranty.
