Hey guys, I'm looking for a wireless range extender for my house. The wifi drops DRASTICALLY when it gets to my room. ISP can't do anything about it. My ping when I run a speed test in my room is 800+, download of 00.01 and upload 00.01. It's stupid. So I was thinking a simple fix would be to run a wireless range extender to in my room, just so I got wifi in my room. What's a really cheep one that would get the job done? I just need it for my phone, I like to facetime my girlfriend and I haven't been able to cause of this wifi... :/
Please help me out guys!!
thanks!
Zylo :)

I would also recommend powerline or if you can do it a ethernet cable that you put a AP on.

You cannot put a wireless extender in your room...would be nice if manufactures made this more clear. The "magic" devices everyone thinks will fix these problems are really stupid. They receive the signal from the router and retransmit it. The key here is it must be able to receive the signal clearly in the first place. If your devices in your room cannot receive signal then this "magic" box also can not receive the signal so it has nothing to retransmit. Now if you get good signal in your room for it to retransmit then you don't need the device. The only way these work is to place them at a location where they get strong signal but...

On top of all this even if you get these to work perfectly you cut your bandwidth in half. If there are any errors it degrade very quickly.

So I would not use a wireless repeater/extender unless you have no other choice. You want to use some other technology like ethernet or power line to "extend" the network and then a simple AP to provide the wireless at the far end.

Thanks man! Yeah I think the device I meant was an AP, not a wireless extender. But anyway, I think the issue is with my router, so I'm about to find a new one! Thanks for your help!
