R9 290 or GTX 780

Hey I saw these benchmarks here and it seems like the R9 290 is on par with the GTX 780 for over $100 bucks less... I've never really had an AMD card, and I'm looking foward to G-Sync as well, which obviously will only be for the Nvidia cards.... but I'm thinking about getting a 290 now and then getting a G-Sync monitor with a nvidia maxwell card in Q3 of next year.

More about 290 gtx 780
  1. R9 290X
  2. The 290X is a little above my budget.

I was going to be buying two of them and putting them in crossfire so $800 for essentially two GTX 780 doesn't sound bad, plus I'll get to use AMD's mantle for the time being until Maxwell is released.

Why did you ask about it if its over your budget?

290x is better, if you cant get it, the 780 is still a really good card.

BUT IF YOU CAN, get the 290x.
  4. I didn't ask about the 290X i asked about the 290

    The 290 is $399

    The 780 is $499

The 290X is like $570 or something

Because the 290 is a completely different card than the 290x. The 290 is only $400 and is supposed to be released today. http://www.anandtech.com/show/7481/the-amd-radeon-r9-290-review

Right, I missed the "x" that wasnt there...I still say get the 290 by ASUS.
  6. One thing, if you plan to go Cross fire with 290 or Sli with 780 on a 1080p display, you are wasting your money, it's an overkill.
At 1080p get a single card, or SLI 770.
