Hi Guys,

I have a Core I7 3970X running at 4.94 Ghz (OC mode). My current config is :

- mobo ASUS P9X79 Deluxe
- Radeon HD7990
- 64 Gb G.Skill Rip Jaws
- PSU Thermaltake 1.375 W

Sometimes I have been noticed that the clock is downing below the 4.94 Ghz. This is occuring when I running Prime 95 after 5 ~ 10 minutes or I perform a virus check with G-Data Internet Security. I started at 4.94 Ghz but the system cannot maintain this original speed.

I think the my OC is not solid enough.

Can anyone help me with something I can check about this situation ?

Solution
Are you sure your CPU has sufficient cooling? Sound as if you're having a lot of throttling, so the CPU slows itself down to prevent getting too hot.

also, nice overclock! ;)

Dear LostGamer_03,

Thanks for your reply.

I forgot to say about my cooling system. I have and H100i Corsair.

But the main question remains : why my OC is not solid enough to maintain a 4.94 ghz ?

I think my temps are good for an I7 Extreme Edition 3970X. Idle at 38 ~ 40 degrees. Full Load at 60 ~ 65 degrees. Sometimes in 68 ~ 74 degrees in a short time.

Do you have a little guess to share in order to help me about this situation ?

Thanks again,
