BF4: My rig is an AMD Phenom 2 x4 955, with a GTX 670, and 8 gigs of ram, and a 15K RPM WD Hdd. All run by Windows 7, on a Biostar A770E3 Motherboard.

In multi player, I'm getting in the mid to low 30 FPS. The game seems fairly smooth, but I lose encounters I should not.

Were should I begin my upgrade path?

EDIT... VIDEO Settings in the game:

Video settings:

Resolution set at 1680 x 1050 59.9 Hz
27" Samsung SyncMaster S27B350

Texture quality LOW
Texture Filtering HIGH
Lighting quality HIGH
Effects LOW
Post Process Quality LOW
Mesh Quality ULTRA
Terrain Quality LOW
Terrain Decoration MED
AA Deferred OFF
AA Post LOW
Ambiant Occlusion SSAO

I arrived at these from another site having to do with maximizing frame rates.

Thanks in advance!

Here is what I'd consider:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor ($199.99 @ Newegg)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($31.00 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($124.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Crucial M500 240GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($154.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $482.97
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

* CPU is the best AMD offers right now.
* Mobo has all of the necessary parts for little $.
* CPU HSF is...
What is your resolution that your gaming at?

I would say your CPU is probably the only part that might be holding you back. In order to upgrade you would need to upgrade to an AM3+ Mobo and CPU (FX 8350) or Intel options socket 1155 or 1150 depending on what you want or can afford.

Some stats show more FPS on Windows 8, but I can't confirm it, because im not going to use that Tablet OS never.
Try it, since it haves a more light kernel and improved architecture, there will be a boost, yes or yes.

At this point in time I'm looking at a motherboard combo with the AMD FX 8350 or better, depending on my budget.

I think my GTX 670 is OK. And if I go Win 8, I'll also go with a SSD drive.

But all in all, we're looking at ~ $ 500. So I'm looking for the best bang for the buck, but quality counts.

I'm, or was until it disappeared... Looking at that exact CPU,MB combo at New Egg for around that price - $280 as I recall. Im going to wait until Black Friday and see what pops up.

BTW, I'm running Corsair 8 GIG dual channel, DDR3,2666 Mhz.. any problems here. I hope to use it in my new board.

So I guess the consensus is that my CPU needs an upgrade with the board, the GTX 670 is OK for now, and my 8G of ram is OK. And up grade to Win 8.1 would be nice, and a SSD would be a nice endpoint.

* CPU is the best AMD offers right now.
* Mobo has all of the necessary parts for little $.
* CPU HSF is one of the best for the $. Just make sure your RAM's heat spreaders are NOT sticking up too much from the RAM sticks for this CPU HSF. Most aftermarket CPU HSF's are fairly big and can encroach into the RAM slot area, so be aware of this.
* SSD is pretty good and doesn't break the bank for the size that you get.

amd phenom !! 955 3.2ghz-4ghz + gtx 580 = bottleneck, upgrade fx 8350 and win 10-20fps for all games. Phenom 955-970 = old cpu.

mi pc mi experience
fx8350+8gb+gtx 580 1.5gb+hdd+ssd+corsair gs600w v2. Scythe Ninja 3 Rev.B.

if you have $$$ buy Intel 7. + $ + perfomance.
fx8350 is good but not for extreme gamer or crossfire/sli.

I went with the AMD 8350 and an Asrock Fatality board. (The extreme 3 was RMA'd).

So far, so good. But I have some freezing issues due to using the same HDD and not starting from scratch. But that's a story for another day...
