Get an r9 290 put an aftermarket cooler on it overclock it you should hit titan levels if not better. The gtx 780 is still to expensive imo it needs to come down to under $450

Are you sure? What if I OC the 780? Also, how long do you think till other companies like ASUS and MSI start making coolers for the 290? Overall which performs better 780 or 290? Which is future proof?

I might actually go with the 290 since it is cheaper and my MOBO only supports Xfire, but when will other coolers arrive for it? I want to get it before december or a few weeks before christmas. Thanks!

right now is a horrible time to be buying a video card. let black friday come and also let the board partners put their custom pcb's and coolers on the 290/290x. once the hawaii chip can be consistently held under 75c it wont throttle back its core clock and we will be seeing 15-20% improvements on frame rates as a result.

of course... if you really want it now now now.... just grab any reference 29-290 for $399 and grab a $120 waterblock. were already seeing waterblocked 290x hit 1300mhz on the core with temps well under control and thats like a 30% increase in performance. and thats still with beta drivers that haven't matured yet.

What is your motherboard make and model?

Also, unless you plan on throwing an aftermarket cooler or a water block on the R9 290, I would wait until the R9 290 is released with manufacturers' custom coolers.

How long should it take for the manufactureres with custom coolers to make one? I am getting this as a Christmas gift. Also my MOBO is M5a97 R2.0.

Eh, I doubt you'll see them before Christmas. And I don't recommend going Crossfire with that mobo. It only supports x16/x4 in dual-GPU setups.

i see no reason why they wont be out before christmas, these companies want to make money and with the black friday and holiday sales coming up its not much of a risk to wait and hold off until at least black friday.
