So my ground is tile but i have a carpet in the middle of the room which is were im gonna build. Ill remove and hide the carpet and move my big WOODEN desk in the middle. Wood isnt conductive but it has a thin layer of sticky paper to look like wood instead of just plain raw wood. And there are METAL handles for the drawers....should i remove the metal handles when i build?

As long as you are careful you should be okay. I have an ESD wristband that I wear and I've never had an issue on carpet whilst wearing it.

To be extra safe, you could remove the metal handles. You might as well pull out the drawers themselves if you can. As long are you careful and don't touch the metal a lot, you should be fine anyway. You can always ground yourself by touching the metal of your case. That discharges all static electricity in your hands.

You should be fine either way. I've done several builds on carpet and other surfaces. I have one of the wristbands as well, but I only use it if I am building a computer for someone else. Just make sure to ground yourself often.

If you have a plastic floor mat, use it to your advantage in the area that you intend to build on. If you don't you can get one at your local electronics store (or Costco, Home Depot, Walmart, etc) for like $25.
