So I'm planning on picking up an MSI 780 Twin Frozr around Christmas to put in my first gaming build, I like the performance reviews and the relative silence of the card. I just have one concern regarding AMD's mantle after reading articles like this....

http://www.tweaktown.com/news/33735/amd-s-mantle-api-sees-three-more-developers-jump-on-board/index.html

My question is basically, how big of a disadvantage will I be at using my 780 with Mantle optimized games? Even with a high-end Nvidia GPU would it be possible to experience poor game-play due to Mantle optimization? Should this be a major concern of mine when buying a GPU?

Again I'm new to this so hopefully this question makes sense.

Thanks in Advance

Hmm .. The 7990 is typically faster than the the GTX690. The R9 290X is generally faster than Titan at nearly half the cost and the 780Ti is an unreleased card that should be slightly faster than Titan and may regain the title of single fastest GPU for Nvidia. None of these cards pulls away much from the other so they are all very close, but typically the AMD...

You also shouldn't believe people who say it's only marketing trick, because unless they work in amd they probably know jack shit.No one knows,we'll see it in a month/two.

Here's a better idea. Don't be fooled by people like you who don't know jack-squat when it comes to anything graphics-related. This post has just outed you as a complete graphics no-nothing. Congratulations!

yeah i wonder amd can't beat 690/titan/780 ti...mantle is useless

well they were using mantle to beat those. Mantle was suppose to enable developer to optimize the performance by giving low level access to the hardware where it is not possible with DirectX or OpenGL.

Also, the R9 290 cards should get a bit quicker once the board partners ditch the reference designed cooler.

An overview of the performance at all resolutions of the cards you mentioned being beaten (barely) by AMD's cards- http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/R9_290/26.html

AMD has done all of that without using Mantle. Mantle much like 3DFX's GLide should allow for much better performance than what DX or OpenGL can provide.
