A big graphics card upgrade

I bought this prebuilt pc a couple months ago as a cheap but decent gaming computer, but now I want to upgrade to a more powerful graphics card.

My question is, if I have a 500W power supply and the card uses a 450W minimum, should I upgrade the power supply as well? or chance it?

and do you think I will have any overheating issues with the current case/fan setup?

It depends on weather or not the PSU is high quality. If it's not you would want to upgrade it.

Your current PSU is likely sufficient to meet the needs of your system with the new GPU. However, I would not recommend overclocking this rig (CPU, GPU, or memory) with the current PSU. If that is your plan, you should consider upgrading to a quality PSU (Seasonic, Corsair, XFX).

The card does not use 450w, 450w is the minimum recommended for the entire system using that card. If its a low quality PSU(good chance it is as alot of prebuilts save money by installing cheap low quality power supplies) then you would still want to replace it with a better power supply. If you provide the make and model of the power supply(will be on a sticker on the side of the power supply) we can tell you if its good or not.

you could have bought an AMD FX-6300+ r9 280x with your 700$....
