GTX760 Upgrade To... 1440p

So I need some opinions here on what the better upgrade path is. I'm looking to upgrade to a 2560x1440 monitor, and I don't think my EVGA GTX 760 GPU Boost model is going to cut it. I have the 02G-P4-3769-KB from BestBuy that comes with +79MHz speed. Bought one locally just because I had so much trouble with the last card I bought I wanted to be able to bring it back right away.

Other specs as follows:
i7 4770K
Corsair H100i
16GB 1600Mhz Corsair Vengeance Pro
Asus Z87 Sabertooth
Samsung 840 EVO SSD
EVGA GTX 760 GPU Boost 2.0

So should I be buying another identical 760 from BestBuy to get good FPS at 1440p, or would I be screwed since SLI would still only give me 2GB of VRAM? I'm guessing I'll only have 2GB available vs 2GB+2GB.

Or should I be just giving up and buying a 780 to later be SLId? Also will by 16GB vs 32GB of RAM make a difference?

I forgot the most important part... Will my AX760i PS support two 760s?

I wouldn't recommend SLI, you won't have enough VRAM and the bandwidth for 760s are low (192bit?) for 4k. Look into the new 290x, if you sell your 760 it would help. Don't go for a reference design 290x though. When you get into 4k, you probably need at least 3GB VRAM and a powerful GPU or multi card setup. Going with NVIDIA you'll pay extra for the expanded VRAM, but If you like NVIDIA look to a powerful single GPU.

Look through the benchmarks for this article on each game. Gives you an idea about how rough 4k can be for video cards.

Yes your 760watts PSU will run it, sli 760. But if you game on that res, I suggest you to buy another 760. It will be able to handle it. You don't actually NEED more than 2gb on a single monitor with that res. 2gb I believe will be just right.

What I would suggest is that try the 760 on the new monitor first. Then if you feel it doesn't cut it, just save a little then go for a more powerful card. Single GPU is always stable than sli/xfire. And it creates less heat and requires less power.

Yes, especially for 2560x1440 the rest of your sytem is ideal, except for your GPU, it would be bottlenecked. I have a 2560x1440 monitor, and with a GTX 780, i can hit 80-90FPS on high setting in BF4. So if you want to play the latest and greatest at anything more than 30FPS, either a second GTX760 or upgrade to 780 would be necessary. Personally, I suggest going the 780 route and forget SLI, its not needed for now. And yes, for higher resolution, more VRAM is recommended. The 3GB on the 780 would fit ideally, otherwise you would need two cards (760) of 4GB. Also, I run 8GB of RAM, and I only hit 50-60% RAM usage even while gaming.

Ok wow... I was under the impression that the 780 single GPU setups were struggling with BF4 1440p. If yours runs it at 90FPS the obvious choice is just a single 780 then... I wonder how much better the 780Ti will be for he price increase.

I guess all there is to do is wait for the 780Ti to come out and see how it stacks up against the 780.
