Hello,
I would like to buy the ASUS Mainboard Z87-K.
Will Windows XP SP3 run on it, because I have some Special Software, that runs not on Win7.
Or is it a General Problem to run Windows XP with the Intel chipset Z87 or H87 ?

Regards Andreas

a quick search showed that ASUS does not have drivers for Windows XP (or even Windows Vista for that matter) driver support for that motherboard. although you can probably get away with installing Windows 7 drivers, it's probably not going to be problem free.

rather than running XP full time, why not install windows 7, and run an XP VM for your software needs? just my 2 cents

Hi´vmem,

thanks for your quick answer. I think I shall try to run under Windows7 XP VM and see if it works with my "Special" Software.
As I do a lot of Video editing and Music editing I now have to find out, which Mainboard is the best for me.
ASUS or Gigabyte both with the Z87 chipset, which one would you prefer? Do you know any performance comparision tests between these two Mainboards? ASUS Z87-k and GIGABYTE GA-Z87P-D3?

hmm, good question, the folks in the link below did an epic round-up of Z87 motherboards back when they were released:
http://us.hardware.info/reviews/4444/27/33-haswell-motherboard-group-test-26x-z87-4x-h87-and-3x-b85-gigabyte-ga-z87-d3hp

There isn't a huge difference between the two, but personally I would go with the Gigabyte board simply because it has more fan headers, and is ranked slightly higher on their ladder of Z87 chip set products. However, bare in mind that I don't run a z87 based system myself, so I can't really talk about any extensive user experience. but based on what I've read and feedback from the couple of folks I've built systems for, the majority of Z87 products on the market are pretty solid.

As for video and music editing, I think you're going w/ the right choice and picking the cheapest reasonable mobo you can find. the money saved would be much better spent on a quality sound-card and GPU to help you work

Hi´vmem,

thanks a lot for your answer. I now have to take my time, to find the best mainboard for me. I think my favorite will be a mobo from Gigabyte,
maybe GA-Z87-D3HP.
