My multiplier on my AMD 8350 drops from x20 to x7 under graphically intensive games (battlefield, crysis, etc) I recently discovered that my motherboard, MSI 760GM-P23 is NOT compatible, as it only supports 95 watt cpus (mine is 125).Could this be the reason for the drop? I have all bios settings for cool and quiet off as well. Computer runs fine regardless, never crashes, just requires a restart to reset the multiplier.

OS - windows 7 64 bit ultimate
CPU - AMD FX-8350 vishera 4.00ghz (stock)
GPU - Radeon 6850 (MSI CYCLONE stock)
RAM - 8 gb PNY
MB - MSI 760GM-P23

Solution
It sure would be why. You really need the 140w boards to fully support then not just the 125w which will still throttle them in cases. You may be able to get it to stop throttling by changing some power settings. Not sure where in the bios they would be on your board

If you have good vrm heatsinks and can get a fan blowing on them you should be able to disable/increase the power limit till you get a new board
