I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 with 4GB, currently running Windows XP, but I'm trying to upgrade to windows 7. When I go to custom(advance) option to delete partition, there are three listed and I'm unsure about which one to delete.

The partitions are as follows: Disk 0 Partition 1 :size 39.0 MB type OEM(reserved), Partition 2: 456.0 GB System, Partition 3: 98 GB (Primary) Dell Restore.

Do I have to delete all of them to perform the clean install? or a particular one? Amy assistance will be greatly appreciated.

While I have not done an upgrade install on a computer (only clean installs and the first time install on a new build), I'm going to guess that yes, you would have to.

The OEM Reserved partition contains the stuff the OEM pre-installed -like the dell splash screen and any pre-installed programs like Trial versions of office 2003 or whatever. I would remove this as this could cause issues later after installing Windows 7 (feel free to correct me on this)

One of those other partitions (probably Disk 0 partition 1) is your recovery drive/ recovery D: drive judging by the small size of said drive. don't worry about the partitions. if you want to partition your drives, you can after formatting the three drive partitions you see. you can create the partitions durring installation or afterwards.

Hope this helped or pointed you in the right direction. : )
