Hey my first post here and I could really use some help with this enigma of a PC build. Any help would be greatly appreciated...As briefly as I can:

Built the machine with these parts http://pcpartpicker.com/user/hiighcalibre/saved/2gLb
Had windows running and everything. Installed an extra pair of fans and the system then stopped posting (mobo code 00), removed fans and it still won't post. RMA-ed the Mobo, RAM, Video Card, CPU. Assuming that I blew the fan headers...

Built the whole system up again (minus 1 fan/not using splitter for CPU fans) tried to boot and the same thing happened (fans come on briefly, code 00), start disconnecting parts but I can't get a post, this time the integrated audio lights on the board won't even come on (first time they would).

Build the system a third time again with a new Mobo, RAM, CPU, Video Card, posts on cardboard fine. Assembled in case (this time with a separate fan controller and only the CPU fans connected to the board) and same thing (code 00 and it will never post again). Ohh and I bought in 2 friends to oversee the process and make sure I wasn't doing anything stupid.

...At this point I feel it has to have been the PSU all along, but I don't understand why a couple of fans would cause such a problem with a big beefy HX1050. Now on my 3rd RMA (parts just came in) this time I also returned the PSU and bought 2 new fans (I dunno I'm just confused at this point) but before I unbox and begin this exercise in futility once more can you guys weigh in with any info you feel might be helpful?

The PSU is modular and has a bank of blue connections and a bank of black connections, I've only been using the black ones, is this my issue? To say the PSU manual is sparse would be an understatement.

the blue power cables are wired for the gpu not the mb. if your plugging the black one into the video card you may be frying parts. the motherboard 8 pin power plug should be one eight pin cable or two four pin black cables. the 6 plus two video cables will be blue. on the system make sure it not shorting to the mb tray that all the brass standoffs were used and the mb not shorting out on the metal fingers of the io shield. (check that there not going into the usb port. on asus mb make sure the cpu fan plugged into the cpu fan header not the opti header and use the usb flashback port to update the bios on the mb. also check to see if asus did a quick check and returned the same mb to you.

The cables are all the same but there are two 'banks' of connections, a blue and a black...but it's semi-modular so the CPU/Mobo and the two PCIs that I have been using for the video card (one as 6 pin and one as 8) are all non-modular. You're saying I shouldn't be using those PCIs for my video card?

I'm 99% sure the standoffs are built into the case.

Was using both CPU and CPU-Opt for two CPU fans, is that an issue?

I tried to flash the bois through USB once it was failing post (to no avail). Pretty sure I have the right file on the USB stick but I dunno if I want to flash the new board straight away (I only have a MAC so I can't compile one myself)

Pretty sure the parts are new as I did my RMAs through Newegg.

on the power supply the four blue ports are for the cpu and video card. the cpu power cable should be a four plus four cable. the gpu are 6 plus 2.
the asus bios file has to be renamed for it to run on the back port. downlaod 0903 bios cap file and rename it to m6h.cap or use the asus bios renamer tool on asus web page. look at the mb the last 4 numbers is the bios rev on the serial number label.

The mobo and CPU are non modular and then there are two additional 6+2 PCIs that are all hard wired to the PSU. Then I was plugging other peripherals (HDDs, Molex stuff into the black expansions).

FYI the build went without a hitch this time, didn't plug in the last two fans but confident that it was the power supply all along.

Ps. Smorzio, I didd't realize how dumb my question was until I opened the box again, looked at the PSU and realized the blue connectors are not even the same # of pins. My bad.
