Problem with Windows Update

Updates are downloaded but when they are install always fail. The following is from one of the failed up dates:
Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (KB2467173)
Installation date: ‎11/‎5/‎2013 6:07 PM
Installation status: Failed
Error details: Code 641

I tried using the Microsoft Fixit no luck. Ran the trouble shooter and still now luck. Disabled my Firewall & Anivirus and still no luck.

OK did what you said:
Boot to safe mode
Cleaned out the SoftwareDistribution folder
Stop the Windows update service and rebooted.
Ran windows update again.. one optional update did get installed
but the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (KB2467173) failed again. I tried to manually install it and still failed.
Error:
The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if Windows Installer is not correctly installed.
Installed Microsoft Office 2010 and a ton up updates downloaded and install successfully. Still just having a problem with just the update mentioned.

It took some work but I finally got the two updates to install. Had to manually download the two files. Then instead of running the files I sent them to Winzip and extracted the separate files to my hard drive. Then was able to run the setup files installing correctly.
