Trying to figure out what these beeps mean. Beeps are short and fast paced. There are no breaks or pauses just 'Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep'. The beeps continue until the system is turned off. Can't find what kind of code this is anywhere.

Gigabyte GA-H61M-S1 Rev 2.2
Intel Core i5 i5-2400 3.10
Kingston HyperX KHX1600C9D3K2/8GX 8GB Desktop Memory Kit

Running this with onboard video for the moment to rule out a video issue.

I have searched, I've watched youtube videos, I have done everything I can think of. Please help me.

Edit: Added revision to MB

Solution

Damn this was hard one ......
I had this just ONE time for 10 years and you mobo is the second one :)

You can`t fix it - you have to replace the mobo if only one RAM channel is working.
Also you need to make Memtest86 - 100% x 3-4 passes

Do you have GPU installed ?
Or you are usin integrated on the CPU ?
If you have no GPU the only posible beep sound is for RAM
Reconnect both RAM
Try one by one to trobleshoot the problem

on the motherboard there a four or eight pin power plug by the cpu make sure that plugged in. use one dimm and onboard video. make sure the mb sitting on top of the standoffs. look at the mb cpu guild see if the mb you have with the bios rev that on it will post. some of the h61 need bios updates for newer cpu.

I'm running on the onboard one first to rule out a video card problem.

All power cables plugged in an accounted for. Tried both ram sticks, one at a time, in each slot (so 4 combinations) and the same deal. I'll check into the bios updates.

The next beep sound is for OVERHEAT CPU !
Can you boot in to the BIOS to check CPU temp , CPU FAN speed
Also look for FAN FAIL - alarm enable/disable
You can Load Bios Defaults then tell us what happens with the beep ...

I can't get into bios, this is no post, no video. All I have are the beeps that start about 1 second after power on. Also, after some research I kept coming up with 'Power Issue' as possible problem. So I tested my PSU output with a multimeter, all voltages normal (my 12v were actually 11.95, and my -12v was -11.55, my other voltages were equally on the high side).

Hmmm...none of those seem to fit the beeps I am getting. rapid fire beeping not a long beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep but beep beep beep beep for about 30 seconds. Then 3 short lower pitched beeps before going silent. After going silent the fans and PSU are still active. That is what is driving me nuts is I can not find that beep sequence anywhere. I have tested both memory sticks, each one separate, in both slots on the board, even with no memory at all. The only time I get ANYTHING different is if I take the CPU out of the board. And then I get nothing (as expected).

The same one. Short fast paced beeps for about 30 seconds, then 3 longer lower pitched beeps before silence. If it was a memory issue, there should be some difference between having memory or not having it right? Even if the memory was bad?

missing sound?

Yep i have misstyped :)
Sorry ....

If you power on without memory installed the mobo will beep 2 short beeps .....
If you still have the same beep like you have memory then you mobo is not functional - does not detect you memory PRESENT or NOT.

Thanks for the clarification. At least that means ATM I don't have to go spending money on new memory. At the same time, I'm kind of filling with some dread as I think I accidentally tossed the receipt for the mobo last night.

Edit: Ahha receipt was in my wallet! Alright, I'll try to exchange this for a new one, probably tomorrow. I'll let you know if that was the case. Thank you!

I already have check this - before i reply at the first place .....

Gigabyte GA-H61M-S1 Rev 2.2 have only one BIOS rev. FC
And it SUPPORTING the Intel Core i5 i5-2400 3.10

So it`s not Unsupported CPU .... if the input data is correct :)

Again guys, thank you very much. Just one more question before I go up to take this back, could this be a problem with the cpu? I mean I guess I'll have some sort of answer for that tomorrow when I exchange the mb, but it just seems odd that a brand new right out of the box (albeit the box itself was opened [no tape on the box], but the mb was still in the bag. Actually assuming its a problem with the mb, it'll be kind of funny because I made a point to grab the one at the back of the shelf in the hopes of getting the one least likely to be messed with) would be messed up. And yes, that is the correct info.

As i sad :
To check this you need to move you CPU , RAM , PSU to testing Mobo and see .........

CPU is teoreticaly possible - in my exp.
If the CPU is failed the Mobo stay at blank screen and just like you hav`t install the CPU at all - no sign of life at all
Hav`t have beeps on bad CPU so far .... but hwo knows :)

Ok, so I have now replaced the processor with an I5 3570. The situation has improved somewhat. With no ram, still the same beeps, however, when ram is placed into the board, get get the single beep everything is working properly beep (only with one ram, 2 ram I get the 30 seconds of beep beep beep beep beep again). However, I am still not getting any video. It sounds like the monitor wants to turn on, but nothing is on screen. I am going to attempt a different monitor shortly, but if thats not the problem, what could it be?

Also, after contacting gigabyte, they said to try with a new processor, so I did that instead of exchanging mobos, so this is still the same one I was working with last week.

Edit: Tried different monitor, new monitor works, still won't let me boot with both pieces of ram, each individually worked fine though.

Edit2: Upon further testing, both memory modules didn't work individually in the second slot.

Bingo, one ram slot works fine, the other does not. Both ram sticks work the same in the first slot. It was the CPU as well because I couldn't even get one to work on the old one, but it looks like this is the new issue. Is there a fix for this or am I loading up back to tiger?

In my case there was sporadic errors so working on only one channel is not advised if the other one is faulty .....

About the CPU - i`ll not rush to blame it FAULTY - it`s normal to not work on other Mobo if the mobo bios is not supporting the microcode of the CPU
And the other mobo may support both CPU ....

SO .... i hope you get you PC fixed soon !
Well ... Best Answer will be received with respect if you decide that is properly earned !

Regards !
