Is the higher the i5 Gen and model, the better it is for gaming?

I know a lot of people say that the i5-3570K is the best CPU for gaming, for many different reasons. Btu is the i5-4670K better (for gaming specifically)?
They are both the same price right now and I want to know which will give me the best performance.

They perform about the same at stock speeds, it's about how well you can overclock both.

The general rule of thumb is to stick with the newer tech so the recommended choice would be to go with the 4670k, the LGA1155 socket of the 3570k is becoming obsolete.

If you haven't bought your motherboard yet, then stick with Haswell.

The 3570k and the 4670k are different chipsets. 3570k is lga1155, and I'm pretty sure the 4670k is lga 1150. Either way make sure your motherboard supports one of them. If so just go with the one your mobo supports. They are both pretty much the same when it comes for gaming although the 3570k is the best bang for the buck imo.

I'm doing a complete rebuild so I'll just match the mobo. But the 4670K is the same price as the 3570K, which one would you pick in this case?

Agreed. As the lga 1155 socket is pretty much dead and nothing is coming up for the socket anymore. Although the 3570k is still a very good choice. If the 4670k is the same price though then go with that.

The 4670k, its a newer socket and therefor more cpu's will come out for that socket for you to upgrade in the future if you choose so.

4670K is a better option as it has a newer socket allowing for more upgrading options, they have actually already stopped producing 1155 mobo's so yeah grap an 1150 socket cpu+mobo
