Hey Guys,

I am using MSI Z87 G45 motherboard with 3 PCI-E ports x16 - currently have single GXT 780 installed.
I am planning to get another GTX 780 and run it in SLI but have a problem - my current card takes 2,5 slot.
Is it possible to add another card in Port 3 (I don't have enough space to fit it in port 2), so have cards in port 1 and 3 ?
If such combination is possible, will the card run in x8/x8 mode ?

If no, do you recommend to:
- sell the existing card or
- get a different brand with similar clocks (thinner) and try to squize them in ports 1 and 2 ?

Thanks for your help,
Mick

This is your mobo, right? http://us.msi.com/product/mb/Z87-G45-GAMING.html#specif...

And if you put it them in the first and third PCIe x16 slots, the first will run at x8 and the third will run at x4.

Hey Mick,

I'm also in the exact same situation as you right now.

I have the MSI Z87 GD65 Gaming motherboard with a GTX 780. My card also has a 2.5 slot cooler on it. (Gainward GLH edition 780)

Here's my board: http://www.msi.com/product/mb/Z87-GD65-GAMING.html#spec...

ihog, so if we put SLI'd cards into slot 1 and slot 3, it will definitely run at 8x/4x, not 8x/8x?
If so, that's disappointing :(
