basically my wife offered to buy me another card tomorrow, and i was wondering if i should go for the 290 or just continue to use my 7970?? im not sure if the increase is worth it. i also have someone willing to pay $200 for my 7970 so theoretically i would be paying like $200 for the card. Well my setup is as follows.............. i7 2700k, 8 gigs ram, 700watt psu. as of now im also only gaming 1080p but looking into 4k televisions in the near future. I am looking to max b4 to the fullest extent atleast in 1080p..

4k is at least a year away for logical for home theater... 4k bluray players are like $600 and the movies them selves are like $50..... and as far as cable/satalite/internet feeding 4k bandwidth.... thats at least 2 years away in the very best markets with the newest most advanced lines. basically if you cant right now download 15gb in an hour... then you cant even get full 1080p.... 4k is going to require like 100gb an hour.

the only 60hz refresh 4k monitors cost well over $3000. and even two voltmoded overclocked titans barely squeeze out 45fps in a game like crysis3/bf4 on 4k.

as far as your 7970... i would hold onto it until like mid summer 2014 when we will see the price of the 29-290 end up around $299 because its just a law of electronics. theres no other games coming out that will push the boundaries for at least a year now that bf4 is out and your 7970 should even give you pretty great performance on a 1440p monitor.

my 7950/2500k played bf4 beta at 1440p on ultra no problem, all i changed was turning all the way down was post process quality and antialiasing post, and run 2xmsaa.

I would say go for it but if you can, wait for the cards with the after market coolers and a game bundle. I suspect AMD will add a new game bundle to these cards as we approach the holiday season.

well honestly i would like to have atleast 75+ fps in bf4

Hold on the 7970. The 290X would make a big difference in FPS on BF4 but it won't be worth it that much as the 7970 will run Battlefield 4 on decent settings and you should probably hold onto it.

2 7970's = 7990 and way faster than R290x/titan MAYBE the $700+ 780ti black edition will equal the horsepower of the dual card setup.

You're right... the R9-290X IS way better, than ONE HD 7970/R9-280X card. It is NOT however, better than TWO HD 7970/R9-280X cards. I should know, I'm running two HD 7970 cards in crossfire as I type this...LOL

Save your money, get another HD 7970 (or R9-280X) and game happy for the next 3-4 years.

Your power should be fine but you will need 2 6pin & 2 8pin power connections. As far as gpu horseppwer you could go 5 plus years if needed of which a pc with 2 7970's will be an easy sell. r290 for 2 bills is killer for sure, if your willing to wait for a custom/overclocked r290 the extra cooling will allow more overclocking. You will be happy either way or even wait. I personally have a gtx670 and can get a new 2nd one for $260 (very tempting) but first plan to get a gsync monitor, so many options it's crazy!
