Hi Community.

I am noob at all this and I need some advice. I am kind of taking an office pc and upgrading it a piece at a time to play moderate gaming intensities and use it for my writting and light photo editing.

I would like to find out which would be the best PSU to buy between a

AeroCool strike-x 800w 80+silver,
AeroCool GT700w
Tuaro 700 bronze.

The prices for the are all similar so thats not an issue, just which would be the best one.

My build is a 3.0Ghz core 2 duo, 4Gb RAM, 160gb sata Hdd, GT650 graphics cards and
4×120mm fans

thanks guys

hi janish

Thank you for your reply.

I am based in South Africa and the Aerocool strike x 800 sells for about R1500 the gt700 for about R1000 and the Tuaro about R1200.

so I have a budget of R1500

Based on the specs, the AeroCool strike-x 800w is the best one. It is way more than you need, though, for the CPU and GPU that you are using. A GT 650 is a low end card that requires little power. The AeroCool strike-x 800w is capable of powering monster GPUs like the Titan, 7990, 690, 290x and 780 due not only to the 800w but also the massive 66 amps on the +12v rail. Also, it is semi-modular which is handy for cable management. If they are all the same price like you say they are, get that one.

The second one, AeroCool GT700w, has a higher 80-plus rating of gold. It also has 2x +12v rails rated at 40 amps each. This PSU is also massive overkill for your PC. I'd still take the 80-plus silver Strike-x over this simply because it has more wattage and only a single +12v rail as modern CPUs no longer require separate rails. It too is semi-modular.

The Tauro 700w is also overkill and has a 58 amp +12v rail. It has the lowest 80-plus rating at bronze. It is not modular at all.

If it were me, I would buy something that is still high quality but much cheaper and with lower specs. That is, unless you plan on upgrading or using this PSU in a future PC with huge power hungry GPUs in the future.

Thank you so much for your in depth reply u_gonna_squeel...

This might be a really lower grade question but as said I am new to this and don't know alot. Your help is most appreciated.

How does it being a modulator help and what does that mean?

Well i have a suggestion other than the three you have choosen. I thought of Corsair RM Series RM650 650W 80 Plus Gold Certified Fully Modular Power Supply. This is optimized for silence and delivers gold-rated efficiency. Fully modular low-profile black cabling helps ensure fast and neat builds.
