card for video editing

I am a little confussed about what card to use. Right now I have a HD6950 AMD 2Gb video card which has a 2x6 pin power cables. The card is power hungry compared to todays cards. I guess I should say that I am using Avid Studio for video editing software. And I must add I am not a gamer. I have a chance to buy a Sapphire 1Gb 128 bit card at a good price. By dropping down to this card will it affect my editing of video? Rendering etc. FYI I don't do any 3D editing just HD h.264. When you read up on video editing and video cards the reads come back all over the board. Some say the 2Gb 256 bit cards are the way to go and others say no problem with the 1Gb cards. Even Avid Studio doesn't seem to care if it's a AMD or Nvidia card.

Bottom line: The better the card, the faster the editing. And in this case, within your budget, 7870XT is the best card. :) You may want to close the thread.

This is were it gets confussing. I was under the impression that a 2Gb card was used for higer res. monitors and for gamers and the 192 bit part of the card was used by the editing software. I guess I am wrong. I will take a look at the card and see what's said about it. I guess if I wanted to save money I could keep my HD6950 with 1Gb at 256bit? But it seems like a 2Gb card would add more memory if needed from the 16Gb's I have installed.
