Missing Space on HP Notebook HDD

Hi, so I when I got my PC, I realized that my HDD was partitioned into a storage (C) Drive, and a recovery (D) Drive. The C: drive is 438 GB, and the D: drive is 26.3 GB. This adds up to about 464.3 GB, but my total hard drive space is 500GB, where did the rest go!?

Solution
Decimal GB vs. binary GB. HDD manufacturers quote capacity in decimal GB (where 1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes) and often they round up, but Windows shows capacity in binary GB (where 1 GB = 1,073,741,824 bytes, which is 2 to the 30th power). 500,000,000,000/1,073,741,824 = 465.66. There may be a gigabyte or two in a hidden recovery partition as well.

Well, that's awfully dirty of the HDD manufacturers, don't you think?
