Hi guys.

I have a problem with my gtx 670 ftw from evga its been working perfect since i purchased it months ago and all of a sudden my pc screen started to get random shaped of colours and lines through it so i thought wtf is this and restarted my pc to see if it would fix it.

once the pc was restarted i could not in anyway start windows 8 and would get an error saying VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE and nvlddmkm.sys. so after hours and hours of stuffing around and reinstalling windows which constantly failed because it restarted before installation could complete i decided to disable the graphics card in the bios and use the onboard graphics which to my surprise allowed me to install a clean windows 8 so after all that and the new clean nvidia drivers were installed i shut down my pc set it up again for graphics card and again it would not good just died after the bios screen with the same bs message and now the only way i can use my pc is without a graphics card this is making me so angry the last time i actually used the graphics cards for gaming was the day battlefield 4 beta started and it was fine and now i want to use it again and it wont work.

so after the rant has anyone had this problem and managed to fix it or is my graphics card truely dead and should i return it to the place i purchased it if i can?

im kind of frustrated atm so if you guys need anymore info let me know and ill fix it asap cheers.

EDIT: also ive tried swapping the cable from motherboard to gpu while windows was signed in and the computer would crash to the same error.

Go look for the latest driver for windows 8.1 and see if that helps. Windows 8.1 uses directx 11.1 so that could be a reason for the issue. Also see if you have all the updates for 8.1 etc.

Have you tried removing the NVidia drivers completely and then booting with the card in?

I've done complete fresh windows 8 installs with different drivers from nvidia and all up to date windows updates before i attempt to use the graphics card but same result every time the moment the graphics card is used it instantly crashes windows and wont allow it to boot into windows and if its already in windows it crashes it.

https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/526001/windows-8-x64-fails-with-error-code-video_tdr_failure/

I would suggest you try some of the suggestions in that thread specifically the one where they use the v285.62 driver for windows 7 64 bit. Otherwise if possible, test your card on a different PC etc.

hey i sent in a warranty to pccasegear where i purchased from but id just like to post a new development as well

so i tried it in another pc that houses a gtx 670 ftw also and put his into mine. my pc ran like a treat whereas he managed to log into windows with constant lag driver crashes and artifacts so hopefully it is wrecked and i get get it fixed/replaced/refunded.
