Laser vs Optical, which mouse should I get?

Pretty much what the title says. Which tracking is better? Apologies if this seems like a very reductive question, and much more goes into a mouse performance than just tracking, but I know nothing about hardware/peripherals...

Is that the general rule of thumb or are there exceptions in certain models? This mouse will be used for gaming, as well, but I assume if it's good for gaming then it's gonna be good for pretty much everything.

Well I think I'm gonna go for wired as I can't imagine a wireless response to be faster? What do you mean by the ergonomics? Could you give me a few recommended examples for around the £60 mark?

Laser is always better than optical. Wired will be faster. Ergonomics = how it feels when you hold it in your hand. Look at Logitech, Roccat, Razer, Mad Catz. They all produce good gaming mice/mouses. Mad Catz RAT 5, for example, is around the £60 mark. That's not a recommendation, just an example. I personally own one Razer mouse and one Logitech mouse.

Just done a bit of research and I'm thinking ROCCAT Kone XTD as they have good reviews. I guess you'll never truly know until you get one in your hands though. What does the DPI translate to in terms of performance?

Ahh crap, ignore this post. Deleted. Still looking.

I have a friend with the Roccat Kona and he loves it, and another friend with a RAT, and he loves his too. Different people have different preferences, different sized hands. There is no correct answer with mice. Suggestion: buy from somewhere with a good returns police (Amazon, for example). Try a couple, see what you like.

Yup, just putting my build together in part picker and saw that the ROCCAT was cheap on Amazon so going to go with that, what with return policy and price. Thanks a lot for help, now just to find a keyboard! Is it the same with keyboards, i.e. just personal preference mainly? I have these two which are in my price range. The Mad Catz one looks like some original Star Wars trilogy technology haha and I weirdly like that, but the Gigabyte one looks more comfortable. Any experience with brands?

If it's worth it then I might just pump the extra cash into getting a mechanical keyboard. I did look at them but they did seem very expensive, I couldn't imagine why there'd be such a difference but it's good to have it explained to me.

They aren't really more expensive. I'm assuming you are a heavy user here, of course. Consider that mechanical switches last much, much longer, you're better off buying one mechanical keyboard for £80 that will easily last you 10 or more years, than having to buy a replacement regular keyboard for £40 every 3 or 4 years because the cheap membrane buttons die relatively easily.
