As I have a soft side when it comes to buying XFX products because my ones an old but a gaming motherboard and that I ain't seeing any other XFX products in the market so I am not that much willing to change my motherboard as with it I also gonna need a new CPU and also that my power supply is new so not wanna change it as well. Is there any other replacement I can make about other components to make it a power rig? Suggestions about changing CPU and GPU would be fine. By the way, I also need help with the difference in brands like XFX, Gigabyte or Asus motherboards or Sapphire or XFX graphics cards.

And considering I change my motherboard, please recommend me any other Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Quad compatible ones because Core i5 or i7 is really expensive. DDR3 ram requirements is fine since ram is not that costly and I can replace it. Buying a new core i-series based motherboard would be my last option. Anyway, I just wanna make my old pc a powerful one. Please suggest me the changes. I am currently saving for buying the new R7 260X. Thank you.

The main reason of the change is the ram limitation of 4GB in my mobo and a PCI Express 2.0 slot although PCI 3.0 cards is compatible with 2.0 slots but I might face problems for the ram and the old processor. I am gonna change one by one because of low budget. In this way, I can still play games inbetween the upgrades.

My PC configuration is
Motherboard: XFX X-G31
Processor: Core 2 Duo E7400 2.8GHz
RAM: 3GB (4GB Max)
Graphics: XFX HD4650 1GB (Approx. Total Memory 2300 MB)
PSU: Corsair VS450

Yes, totally agree -- it is a waste of money to buy another old motherboard. Look at the ASRock H87M HERE and an i5-4430. The other choice is to go with AMD.
Hi,

You are just beating a dead horse. Finding a lga775 mobo is hard since they are discontinued. Most of them are low quality with 1 year warranty and limited in ports. I assume that if you are getting a high end GPU, it's because you are a FPS gamer.

I really suggest getting a core i 5 system or, if you are on a tight budget, get a fx-6300. It will cost less and you will be able to game descently.

Thanks for the reply! Actually, I am more of a third-person gamer but you are right because after playing Far Cry 3, I became a fan of FPS as well. Please suggest me a good motherboard for AMD FX-6300 or Intel Core-i5 processors and a reasonable amount of RAM for games like Call of Duty - Ghosts or Watch Dogs or etc. which would be future proof in this tight budget. And also will R7 260X be ok? Then I can calculate how much I need to spend. I am so desperate for the recent games that I will go for the graphics card first then all the other adjustments if that's ok with my current rig. Thank you.

Thanks. That's a pretty decent motherboard but it requires only 4th gen processors which is quite expensive. Is there any combo motherboard that let's you have a 3rd gen processor and also future proof for any upcoming 4th gen processor? A motherboard that supports both generation? Thank you

Nope, they have a different pin count. The Haswell's have 1150 pins, while the prior models had 1155. One real bonus with the Haswell chipsets IMO is the extra SATA 6Gbps and USB 3.0 ports.

While it is hard to "future proof," to even try you need to start with a current generation not a prior.

If that is too expensive for you and you are mostly a gamer, take a look at the AMD options.
