ASUS Rampage IV Formula BIOS Update USB Flashback Questions/Issues

Hi,
I recently bought a Rampage IV Formula from eBay and I am waiting a few weeks for the i7-4820K. Now a BIOS Update is required to use IVB-E CPUs and according to the label on the motherboard, it says it is version 0403 which is the first release BIOS.

Asus recommends converting the current BIOS format from .ROM to .CAP and I put this converter on my FAT32 USB and the converter was renamed to (R4F.ROM) using the renamer tool.

I plugged the USB into my motherboard and then started the USB Flashback. It seemed to go well, taking only around 30-40 seconds to 'convert'. The LED Light stopped blinking and I turned off the motherboard and removed the USB.

I then booted into my working desktop to then place the most latest BIOS version (4601) onto my USB (renamed to R4F.CAP). I plugged this into flashback port and then went ahead and tried to update. It flashed for 5 seconds then the light went solid again. This would mean that it either didn't find the file or an error occured.

I don't understand why its not updating. I spoke to ASUS and they said I should have both the converter and the bios on the same USB at the same time when updating.

Is this correct?

Hi, I am having the same issue & it seems so are a lot of people. Mine is the same CPU as well. I have done the exact same thing as you & it went through the same process but nothing changed. Still has the red CPU light on after I hit the start Button!
I thought it might be the CPU so I have since removed it to try and get it checked today. Considering this is an expensive board and well known brand I think it is piss poor!
I have done heaps of searching on the net and it seems it is all to do with the dam Bios not recognizing the CPU?
I have also sent an email to Asus but no reply as yet?
Not sure what to do if the CPU checks out which it should as its brand new.
I read someone tried flashing about 12 times before something worked. Also I read someone removed the battery for some time & then tried again?
Let me know it you have a solution?

I thought you were supposed to run the converter app, which would then update the BIOS to correct format? I had a different asus board/cpu so I never had to convert anything, but I thought the converter was an app you actually had to run once to convert the file. The BIOS file is also supposed to be .CAP before you flash it I believe, which is what the app should do from what I though I understood.

Yes you are right according to the Asus site. You download the converter & renamer files. You rename the converter file and then flash the bios.
I have done that and it appeared to update the bios like it says, but when I restart the computer nothing has changed. Its still the same with the red light on etc...
Thats what other people are saying too..now I was reading some are buying a new bios chip from Asus? What a joke. This board is brand new!

Hi, download this http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA2011/Rampage_IV_Formula/Rampage-IV-Formula-CAP-Converter.zip (ensure you have the correct OS selected from the dropdown on the asus site).

I have used the USB Flash also and had issues with it, take a few tries!

But anyway once you have the converter downloaded use the ASUS AI Suite (http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/utils/AISuite_II_XPVistaWin7-8-8-1_R6F_VER20401.zip) update feature. Selected the ASUS Update as the selected update method.

In the converter downloaded file is a PDF giving you instructions on how to convert your BIOS to use .CAP

Once you have the conversion done, go back onto the ASUS site and downloaded the latest BIOS for your Rampage IV Formula and repeat the ASUS Update with the newest BIOS [AFTER THE CONVERSION HAS BEEN DONE]

What you have probably done is only converted the board to utilise the .CAP BIOS and is likely why the BIOS is coming up as the same, you probably just now need to update your BIOS to the latest version.

PS: All of my given links for downloads are for Windows 7 64-bit OS.

Hi,

Old thread, I know, but I'm experiencing very similar issues.
I have a Rampage IV Formula board with an old BIOS, further I want to use this board with an Intel i7-4930K CPU.
The MB gives me a red CPU LED and the debug LEDs give me '00'.

Several threads suggested that I should update the BIOS to make this MB grok Intel i7-4930K CPU. So I did :

* First I flashed the bios to convert it to CAP file format, by downloading the Rampage-IV-Formula-CAP-Converter from the Asus support site
This seems to work, the ROG connect button blinked for about a minute.

* Then I downloaded the latest Rampage-IV-Formula BIOS 5001, the file name is Rampage-IV-Formula-ASUS-5001.CAP, renamed it to R4F.CAP
put it on a FAT32 formatted USB stick.
The ROG connect button only blinked three times. No matter what I did, I tried the original CAP filename, 5001.CAP and R4F.CAP, all with the same result.

Do any of you have an idea I what I did wrong?
Any suggestions?

I know its not the best. But i just updated my rampage iv's BIOS via the ai suite. Had trouble doing it how you are. Also sorry i cant remember what i did to convert the flash over to the new flash - taking into consideration the boards lattest bios is now over 2 years old.

Oh if you go down the ai suite route id recommend uninstalling it after as its known to cause a number of issues conflicting with other software and firmware.
