HIS Radeon HD7950 powered by CX750

When attempting to play any game on any settings, the temperature of the GPU shoots up, and the 'power status' on the card drops, which then causes my computer to crash. What is the cause of this problem, and how can I fix it?

System Specs

Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3
GPU - HIS Radeon HD7950
CPU - AMD FX(tm)-8120 Eight-Core Processor, 3100 Mhz
RAM - 8gb
PSU - Corsair CX750w

What are your GPU idle and loaded temperatures?

Also, are you overclocking anything (CPU, GPU, memory)?

Idle temps are about 32-35oC. And loaded, it shot up to about 65oC before it crashed. And no, I am not experienced in computing to attempt overclocking yet.

It shouldn't be crashing at 65c (that is actually pretty good for a loaded GPU). Are you using the most current (13.9, I think) video AND chipset drivers from AMD?

If not, install the chipset drivers first (restart) and then the video drivers (restart). Try again.

Did that, and restarted. Loaded up a game, and the same thing happened again. The game runs fine for about 5 seconds while the temp climbs and power status goes red, then it crashes.

That is the symptom of a typical heat and/or power issue. How old is the PSU? Also, what are your CPU idle and loaded temperatures? Are you using the AMD OEM heatsink or an after-market model?

The PSU is brand new, the replacement arrived this morning. My CPU idles at about 40-45oC. Im using the heat sink that came with the CPU. I'm starting to believe that the Card itself is faulty.

When you run a game, how hot does the CPU get?

That is a fairly high idle temperature, BTW.

No, unfortunately, I don't have that luxury. I have contacted AMD, but doubt I'll get a reply, as I didn't last time I tried to contact them. Thanks for thring to help though, I really appreciate it.
