I have 2 Samsung SATA internal Hard Drives. I recently changed my motherboard and they do not show up on the BIOS or anywhere else for that matter. When I was using the previous motherboard, they would sometimes show and sometimes not. I would usually have to restart my computer for one of them to show up. Just before replacing my motherboard, they would hardly show up. No they wont show up at all.

I have already checked under 'Disk Management' and they don't show up. I have also checked the PSU by removing the SATA from the DVD/CD drive (which shows up) and still nothing.

From testing it out, neither of the drives even begin to spin. I cannot understand how both could go at the same time if that is the case.

One is practically empty but the other one if pretty full of data. I use a SSD for boot.

Hi,

I've tried all the SATA ports in the motherboard. Also used the SATA cables that came with the motherboard and it still doesn't recognise them. I will try to test them on another computer hopefully. Just baffles me how both could have gone at the same time if that is the case :/

Make sure the ports they are connected to are not in raid mode as this would hide them from the bios to make them available in the raid bios.

And you sure you have the sata data cable and the sata power cable plugged into them right? Some people don't realize there are two cables but it sounds like you do.

to me it sounds like the bearing in the drive are seizing. If they wont spin you have 0 chance of data recovery thru software. You can try this but do so at your own risk: Some people have had success by freezing their drives. Put it in a ziplock bag and seal it then put that into another zip lock and seal that. Leave it in the freeze overnight and try it as soon as you take it out. Other people recommend giving the drive a whack with something like a hammer, not hard enough to drive in a nail but strong enough where you wouldnt want your finger to take the hit. Alternate you can drop it flat about 6 inches onto a table.

***These sometimes frees up the bearing long enough for data recovery. Do not do this unless you are fully ready to recover your files. You may only get 1 chance.***

if the files are important where you'd spend money to get them back then please consider sending the drives back to seagate for data recovery.

I have tried them on another computer. They worked just fine!

For people that asked, I did try all of the SATA ports. My motherboard is an ASRock H77 Pro4?MVP.

My guess now is that the SATA peripheral cable is busted. My PSU is a Corsair Ax850. One cable works just fine and is connected to my SSD. I don't know if it could be the CPU that is faulty.

The model for the HDD is HD103SJ Spinpoint F Series. Unfortunately, I can't find the firmware you mentioned anywhere. Donwloaded the available downloads for the drive but it still doesnt find it :/. I have gone through the troubleshooting but no help.
