Knowing that most games cannot fully use i7 to its max potential. Would it be a wise investment or should I just buy an i5 and upgrade when necessary? Thoughts?

Solution
For gaming computer, it all really depends on budget. GPU tends to matter more for gaming. Going forward, games will favor i7 over i5 of the same generation and clock speed. If you can afford to go all out, i7. If not, save about $170 by getting an FX 8320, over a 4770k, and use the money saved towards a more powerful GPU. With that price difference, you could get an FX 8320 and R9 290 for roughly the same cost as a 4770k and an inferior HD 7950.

I understand what you mean, I should have asked the question better. I'm new. I'm trying to make my first gaming computer and wondering what I should buy, i7 or i5
