Hello, I really need help badly.
My New(ish 7month) laptop (hp) running windows 8 starts up with no icons displaying on the start screen, there is also nothing appearing when I try to search anything via the mouse to corner pop-up and I am unable to pin anything to the taskbar or change the image quality (I am only able to get to the desktop by pressing the help button).
Once again I will be very thankful to anyone who replies as this has been a problem for the past couple of days and I have no idea what caused it to happen.

Open an administrative command line by opening the power users menu (Windows Key + X) and selecting "Command Prompt (Admin)". Type the following commands. Each command is on a separate line:

del %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Windows\appsFolder.itemdata-ms
del %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Windows\appsFolder.itemdata-ms.bak
tskill explorer

This will reset your Start screen back to default settings.

Alternatively, I have a batch script written to run the commands for you. If this ever happens again, you won't need to remember them:

Thankyou v. much for replying and sorry it took so long for me to see this, IRL stuff got in the way, I'm going to try it now and fingers crossed it works.

Just tried it, didn't work D:
it kept saying that it couldn't find the path specified when I typed the commands.
If you know why please respond soon.
