Hi,

my rig :

Fx- 4100 cpu
Msi R9 280x 3gb oc edition gpu
1600 mhz G-skill ripjaws ram (4gb*2)
Cooler Master Thunder 500w psu

I just recently upgraded my gpu from a palit AMD hd 4870 512 dual edition to Msi R9 280x 3gb oc edition, now I am wondering would my cpu bottleneck my gpu ?

Thanks !

You will get better frame rates with a better CPU so yes it is a bit of a bottleneck, but it shouldn't ruin your gaming experience unless you are playing something that is CPU hungry, or something that is optimized to use more than four cores such as Crysis 3. If you have the option with your motherboard and the money, you will get some benefit from one of the newer Vishera CPU's such as the FX 6300, 6350, 8320, or 8350.

FX 6300 would be a great budget match, but I would try and OC your FX 4100 first if you can to save money if need be.

Is, Over Clocking the fx 4100, is the solution. Because if games like Crysis are optimized to use more than four cores, how does just the increase in cpu frequency be effective ?

Is Crysis the only game you are going to play?

Are you presently playing Crysis with the setup you have listed? If so, how is it playing? OCing may help if you are bottlenecking. It's more potential fix until you want to upgrade.

What resolution are you playing at?

A 500 watt will work but if you have a CPU that's more than 95watts, it probably will be risky. Either way you should get the gtx 770 just to be safe if you can't afford a better psu right now, better safe than sorry.

my cpu is i5 4670(87 watts- not overclocked).i will be able to buy a new psu when easter comes...are there dangers that other parts of my computer may be damaged if something happens to my psu...it saysthat it has this:o ver Voltage Protection (OVP), Over Power Protection (OPP), Over Current Protection (OCP), Short Circuit Protection (SCP). i havent mentioned that i have it only 3 months.i really worry because it took me a while to gather money to buy all the parts of my system and the only reasson that i have this psu its because my uncle bought it to me as a gift.the 770 that i have been looking is this one : https://www.skroutz.gr/s/3711965/MSI-GeForce-GTX770-2GB... because it is the cheapest and i have seen benchmarks that it is consuming less power than the refference 770 dispite the fact that it needs 2x 8pins or https://www.skroutz.gr/s/2384299/XFX-Radeon-HD7970-3GB-... .let me inform you about my system....

mobo=assus h87e-m
hdd=caviar black 500gb+barracuda (7200rpm)
cpu=i5 4670(non K)
ram=8 GB kingston hyper x
PSU=cm thunder 500w

you dont know how ''desperate'' i am..i am thinking about buying the card in the next 7 days...

Also i want to know if the Amperage is good.It has 2 12v+ rails (24-21)

Nvidia says a 600watt minimum psu with 42 amps on the 12v rails, so I believe you have enough on the 12v rails. When I typed in your specs into a PSU calculator it said you need 535 watts. If you are really worried about damaging your system then you should wait to get a better PSU because it's slightly possible that you could damaged the entire system, probably not likely with over current protection.

Okay you should be fine then especially since your psu is more than 85% efficient.
