GA-78LMT-USB3 memory problem

Building a cheap system for a friend that just wants a basic comp for web browsing, watching clips and maybe on-line movies like at Hulu. Have tried two pairs of 2GB sticks of 1333MHz memory, mushkin and samsung. Both are 1.5 volts, with timings of 9-9-9-24 all of which the BIOS recognizes perfectly. They both act the same. Can only get one stick to work at a time in any of the memory slots. Trying all combinations I found that two sticks will work in slots DDR3 4 and DDR3 2. According to the manual this is not dual channel mode. Slots 4 and 2 are a single channel. Two sticks will not work in the other channel, slots 1 and 3.

I'm sure that the MB is bad. Just would like some second opinions and maybe some advice.\

Any other info needed, feel free to ask.

thanks.....

Solution
Make sure you have the latest BIOS just helped somebody in here that had to do BIOS update to get his 1600 sticks to work, would not even boot with them before. Then again if BIOS is up to date that it is bad board.
Yup, that's what I'm thinking too. The BIOS is the latest and the MB is the latest revision 5.0 too. I am able to get into BIOS with one stick installed or two sticks in the 2 & 4 slots which isn't dual channel. I set the BIOS to optimized defaults and etc but no luck with getting two sticks in dual channel. Guess I'll be RMA'ing the board. Thanks for the reply.

Just an update.

Installed another AMD CPU that I had laying around and the memory problems went away and for both manufacturers sets of 2 x 2GB. Looking into it I found out that the AMD CPU has a memory controller for each channel, inside it.

Turns out that the CPU was bad. Am gonna RMA the CPU instead of the MB.

i have a very similar situation. i have the same mobo but the 4.1 revision model. i have an amd fx-6100 (95w) and i bought 4 gb of patriot dual channel memory (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Patriot-Extreme-Performance-Viper-Series-12-GB-6-x-2GB-PC3-10666-DDR3-1333-Six-/191067995167?ebayCategoryId=170083) this model. when i first assembled my pc i couldnt get them to work properly only in channels 2 and 4 and even so they are seen as single channel. in other combinations of slots windows would only let me use 2 gb (but mentioned it saw 4, and yes i have win 7 64bit). now when i tried to upgrade with another 2 modules the pc tries to boot once, fails and restarts saying i have overclock values which mess up the whole thing(i didnt overclock, i "underclocked" the cpu actually). when it gets in windows it says he sees 6 but only lets me use 4gb of memory. cpu-z however sees them all but in single channel.

out of curiosity what cpu do you have?
