So I want to upgrade my pc and I wanted to know what I should do from here. As i have the 7870 ghz will a 7950 be a good next choice? and also I have a 1050 vga monitor how much of a visual improvement will i get from upgrading into a 1080p hdmi monitor?

Have you thought of adding a 2nd 7870GHz in crossfire? That would be a good move to make. And you would notice some difference is visual quality but nothing too drastic as 1680x1050 is relatively close to 1920x1080
