I have my PS3 connected via HDMI cable to my PC monitor. The monitor doesnt have speakers. I need to somehow get the audio through my PC so it will play through the speakers.
I know my motherboard has an HDMI port but I think it's only for out and not in and I dont want to stick the cable in there to see what happens being it might short it out. The motherboard manual doesnt specify if this is an out or in.
I know there's an RCA to 3.5 adapter that I can run out from the PS3 to the comp, but I was wondering if there's any other methods.

Thanks I guess it does come down to getting that adapter like I thought

Three ways to do this easily:

1: Using the RCA audio outputs for the PS3, you can do a RCA to TRS (3.5mm) conversion, and connect the PS3's output to your PC's Line Input port (Blue jack) [Assuming you have one; most don't anymore]

2: Using the SPDIF output for the PS3, you can connect to your PC's SPDIF Input [Assuming you have one; most soundcards do, but most motherboards do not]

3: Get some form of adapter that takes one of the PS3's audio output modes and converts it to USB, which can then be connected to your PC.

The easiest option, albeit most expensive, is an A/V receiver that manages all your device I/O. I'm assuming that isn't an option in this case.

I suppose you can buy a 1080p Hdmi Male Input to VGA +Audio Output Cable Converter Adapter. I have not found one for DVI though.
