Hi, I am planning on building a gaming desktop and this is one of the questions that makes me surf the internet for long hours. I usually play MMORPG and surf the net, watch videos.

I am currently considering an Intel core i3, AMD Athlon II X2, AMD FX 4100 or 4300.
For GPU, I'm looking at the GTX 650, but I don't know if it would be compatible with the above CPU's.

I have also read here somewhere that when it comes to gaming it the GPU should be the greatest the CPU can handle. While I want to have a smooth gameplay, I'm also considering my budget so If it's compatible then I'd go with Athlon II X2 with the GTX 650.

Solution
There would be no compatibility issue between a CPU and GPU, the only issue would be bottlenecks. Your Athlon II shouldn't bottleneck a regular GTX 650 very much so it would be a good choice. Just make sure your PSU is decent enough (20A on the +12v rail) and all should be good.
